You’re Probably Recycling Wrong

Below is a link to a recent Washington Post article that offers readers an opportunity to test their knowledge of what and what not to offer a waste collector for recycling.

It includes a descriptive graphic of, in general, how collected recyclables are processed at a Materials Recovery Facility. In addition, the author does state more than once that recycling practices can be different from one geographical area to another because not all sorting technology is identical and not all of the local markets for collected recyclable materials are the same. Yet, the article is helpful, because it gives us another chance to learn about what should be offered for recycling vs. what should not be put out near the curb on recycling collection day. Of course, it is best to follow what you local waste collection company wants you to do to prepare and offer items for recycling in your neighborhood.

To help us revisit our recycling knowledge, two brief quizzes are provided in the article along with explanations about why certain items should be offered for recycling or why other items are not good candidates.
