Time to Sweep the Beach Again!
This Saturday, September 16 is World Cleanup Day! That means that the Hanford Baykeepers will join millions of others around the world to help keep the seas and lakes safe from plastics contamination and other garbage.
Over the past five years, World Cleanup Day has mobilized 71 million people to participate in this cleanup effort. It may seem like an unachievable goal to clean up the world, but small steps make a big difference when many people take those steps together.
According to Jennifer Lawson, President and CEO of Keep America Beautiful, there are only 152 pieces of litter on the ground for every person in America to pick up to make this a litter-free country.
Come join the Hanford Baykeepers this Saturday from 10:00 AM until Noon at the Moran Right-of-Way. Help preserve our lake for future generations!
Bring a pair of work gloves and a bucket such as a five gallon one to help collect what you find on the beach. The Baykeepers will have various labeled containers available at the Right-Of-Way to help begin sorting whatever you collect.
Then from 1:00PM until 2:00PM those interested in helping the Baykeepers complete sorting and counting the collected trash will meet at a location to be announced when the cleanup ends at Noon. All are invited.
