Take Action - Support the REDUCE Act
Plastic pollution. It invades and pollutes all bodies of water such as oceans and the Great Lakes. Yet, there is a ray of hope. Congress recently introduced legislation that would encourage companies to use more recycled plastics in single-use products and reduce the amounts of new plastics created. If passed, the law would add a $0.20 per pound fee on virgin plastics used to make single-use items like bottles and packaging.
Consider this: From the time you wake up until you go to bed, enough new virgin plastic for single-use containers will have been produced to fill the largest football stadium in the country according to Janet Domenitz, Executive Director for the Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group.
Also, by 2030 plastic production will contribute 1.3 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere - the equivalent of 300 coal-fired power plants (Source: the Ocean Conservancy).
Yet, we have the power to make change and reshape our future! Join the Ocean Conservancy and tell your elected representatives in Congress that it is time to pass the REDUCE Act.
