First Friendsgiving Dinner - A Wonderful Time!

On October 5th, over 50 Hanford Bay residents gathered at the Community Clubhouse for the first ever Friendsgiving dinner to take place in the bay. This event was hosted by the Hanford Baykeepers, and the clubhouse was made available for the event by the Hanford Bay Community Club.

Members of the Hanford Baykeepers decorated the tables which added a festive atmosphere suitable for the occasion.

Sliced turkey, stuffing and gravy were prepared by the the Colony Restaurant. The attendees brought a bounty of delicious appetizers, side dishes and desserts to share.

Because the event was hosted by the Baykeepers, the attendees were asked to bring their own place settings, beverage containers and drinks in the spirit of reducing the use of disposable plates, cups and utensils.

The doors opened at 5:30 PM. A steady stream of residents began to fill the hall, not only those who have lived in the bay for many years, but also new residents! All of them coming together to enjoy each other’s company and the festivities of the evening.

By 6:15 PM it was time for dinner. An orderly procession of the diners came up to the serving tables and pondered which of the yummy choices they would choose to fill their plates. The choices were numerous and quite frankly made it a bit difficult to decide which ones to choose.

Soon the diners were back at their tables and continuing to chat with their table partners as they savored their food.

Before dessert was served, a Baykeeper gave highlights of the success of the recent Clean Sweep of the Hanford Bay beach and how the results of the cleanup were shared with the Ocean Conservancy, a worldwide organization devoted to reducing plastics in the ocean and other bodies of water such as the Great lakes. The article below this one in this News section of the website presents details about the clean sweep of the beach.

After dinner, people stayed and continued to chat with their fellow diners. They seemed reluctant to have the evening end.

Since the dinner was a success, it is likely that there will be another Friendsgiving dinner next year.
