Finding Solutions to Tide of Discarded Toys
As the holidays approach, many of us will be shopping for toys that we hope our relatives and others will enjoy for some time. Yet, will we be thinking about the full life cycle of their toys - from production to play to pass along to possible recycling or disposal in a landfill?
The attached article from the Washington Post offers the author’s opinion that the most sustainable toys are the ones that last for decades. Having recently attended the Toy Fair in New York City this fall, she was made aware of toys being made out of recycled materials. In addition she saw toys made of other materials such as wood or metal that should be robust enough to pass them down to other children once a child loses interest in a toy.
In addition, the author offers suggestions about how parents can connect with other parents or toy companies to pass along the unwanted toys.
