Attendees Enjoyed Second Annual Friendsgiving

The Hanford Baykeepers Committee invited Hanford Bay residents to attend the second annual offering of a Friendsgiving Dinner to take place at the Community Clubhouse on the evening of October 3rd. Delicious turkey, dressing and gravy were provided by the Colony Restaurant. A total of sixty-four residents made their reservations to attend and to bring a wonderful assortment of additions to the meal ranging from appetizers to side dishes and desserts.

As residents arrived at the clubhouse starting at 5:30 PM, they not only brought with them their offerings of food but their good spirits too. There was a festive feeling in the place as they mixed and mingled with both long time residents and others who are relatively new members of the community.

After spending about an hour chatting with their neighbors, a member of the Committee thanked them for coming and highlighted some of the events that the Baykeepers conducted this past summer such as the the July Family Night movie, the August presentation by the Director of Education for the Niagara Falls Aquarium and the September Shore Sweep. The residents ongoing support and attendance at such events confirm that there continues to be an interest in helping to protect the Bay and Lake Erie from pollution.

Right after this brief speech, the attendees filled their non-plastic plates (that they brought with them!) and returned to their tables to enjoy their meal and the company of those around them.

Just before the offering of dessert, another member of the Committee said a few words about the commitment that it takes for everyone here in the Bay to be a Baykeeper! For example, it is hard to avoid using single-use plastic items, since they seem to be everywhere. Also, it is sometimes hard to find good alternatives to plastic items. Yet, it is important to continue to make the effort to reduce, replace and remove plastics from our lives for not only our own good, but also for the good of relatives and especially our future generations. Then the attendees were reminded that the Committee’s efforts to continue maintaining the website, the offering of educational events, and the Friendsgiving Dinner rely to a great extent on donations. Again, thanks was given for the support of the residents and a reminder that all residents are Baykeepers!

The evening continued with everyone enjoying samples of the many delicious desserts and more mixing and mingling. After some time, the dinner concluded with everyone helping to put away the tables and chairs, etc.

Since then, we have heard from many attendees that they enjoyed the dinner and are glad that we plan to offer it again next year. In addition, generous donations have come in that will give us the means to offer events next year and continue to maintain this website. We sincerely thank those who made donations!

Since this dinner helps bring residents together who may rarely see each other or even see each other for the first time, we like to share some photos from the dinner to help everyone in the Bay see how the dinner can be beneficial. Below are some photos from this year’s dinner. Just click on the first photo below and then keep clicking on the photos to advance through the rest of the sides in this show.
